OUR STRATEGY

Our strategy paves the way for Rainforest Conservation Foundation to meet its mission, ensuring rainforests in the Wet Tropics Regions of Far North Queensland are restored and protected for future generations.

Establishing Nature Refuge Covenants

Our primary objective is the large-scale reforestation of critical land corridors, expanding the Daintree Rainforest, saving at risk rainforest and ultimately establishing nature refuge covenants on all properties acquired to ensure the long-term protection of rainforest throughout Far North Queensland.

Benella Rainforest Nature Refuge

Located on the Daintree Coast within the traditional lands of the Eastern Kuku Yalanji People, Benella Rainforest Reserve is home to our conservation headquarters.

Working with the Douglas Shire Council, Rainforest Conservation Foundation, is endeavouring to have Benella converted to a Nature Refuge and Education Centre, with the property being reforested with native tree species that are known to bear fruit which attract the Southern Cassowary. The site will become a Cassowary Haven.

Reforestation And The Expansion of The Cassowary Corridor

Focusing on reforesting areas that require remedial attention and broadly falls within land that creates the Cassowary Corridor from Mission Beach to Cape Tribulation, Rainforest Conservation Foundation continues to work with local governments, councils, and communities to identify reforestation opportunities which will ultimately expand the Daintree and the Cassowary Corridor.

Using seedlings propagated in our nursey located in Benella, Rainforest Conservation Foundation will ensure identified land is reforested with native vegetation to restore wildlife habitats and attract endangered and threatened species. Specifically, seeds for propagation are only harvested from trees that are found in a 5km radius of the area being regenerated.

Partnering With Other Conservation Organisations

There are many conservation charities and organisations working tirelessly in the fight against climate change and deforestation. We stand shoulder to shoulder with our partners to protect threatened and endangered species, throughout Australia and indeed the world.

Rainforest Conservation Foundation is partnering with local conservation organisations to develop new and innovative methods to achieve our common goal, reduce the duplication of efforts and ultimately streamline conservation efforts in Far-North Queensland.

As we all know, many hands make light work.
